I think that i shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree.A tree whose hungry mouth is prest against the earth's sweet flowing breasts.A tree that looks at God all day. And, lifts its leafy arms to pray.A tree that may in summer wear. A nest of robbins in her hair.Upon whose bosom snow has lain. Who intimately lives with rain.Poems are made by fools like me. But, only God can make a tree. (Joyce Kilmer, 02-02-1913)

A very inspiring poem that stands true up to this day. Thanks to my elementary grades English teacher (if my memory serves me right, Ms. Virginia Del Rosario, Nellie E. Brown Elem. School, Olongapo City, Philippines) who taught us the poem. More so, let us memorize the poem. Thanks because up to now (where I am a year past my golden years), I still know the poem by 'heart.'

Man can invent things. 'Necessity is the mother of invention', so they say.  They can go to the moon, but man cannot invent a 'moon.'  They can put liquid (water, for instance!) inside a bottle or a can. Make solid out of liquid. But man cannot invent 'water.' Man can place air inside a balloon. He can even invent a balloon. But, he can never invent 'air'.  It is only God who can 'invent' things out of nothing. What is left for man is to invent things out of something!

God made trees. Man cuts trees. As a result...flashfloods, global warming, El Niño & La Niña phenomenon...

When shall WE wake up that we are contributory to the massive destruction of the earth. When was the last time that we gave our share in 'planting new trees" to save Mother Earth?

We only have ONE life to live. Let our human body be the temple of God. Let our human body eat and drink the food of life - God's words.

Let our body symbolize the TREE. Tree of life, strong and tested in time.  Something we can lean on.

Let us receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  This is the best legacy that WE can pass on to our children (and, our children's children)... for ONLY GOD CAN MAKE A TREE! [Elsie M. Muñoz-Cabral, 08.21.2007, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Philippines]
